A Bay Area team is expected to participate in MLB’s Field of Dreams game in 2024.

According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, the San Francisco Giants are set to face off against the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2024 Field of Dreams game. An official announcement, Slusser says, is expected by MLB later this week.

However, the game isn’t expected to take place in heaven.

Previously played in Dyersville, Iowa — where the movie “Field of Dreams” was filmed — the game is expected to move to Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Ala. Giants legend Willie Mays played in Rickwood Field from 1948-50 as a member of the Birmingham Black Barons in the Negro League. Additional baseball legends who’ve played at Rickwood Field include Ty Cobb and Leroy “Satchell” Paige, among many others.

The first Field of Dreams game took place in 2021 when the Chicago White Sox beat the New York Yankees 9-8. The following year, the Chicago Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-2. No game is scheduled to take place in 2023 because of construction at the Dyersville field.

The Giants and Cardinals are in the midst of a three-game series, with San Francisco taking Game 1 in St. Louis.
