Las Vegas Raiders to re-sign running back Ameer Abdullah

Josh Jacobs isn’t the only running back the Las Vegas Raiders are bringing back in 2023. According to multiple reports, the Raiders have agreed to re-sign unrestricted free agent running back Ameer Abdullah to a new deal.
The team confirmed the news later in the day Thursday, but did not provide specifics of the deal.
The Raiders recently placed the franchise tag on Josh Jacobs. Over the course of the 2022 season, the 25-year-old running back rushed for 1,653 total yards, securing the NFL’s rushing title. Jacobs is only the second Raider to win the NFL’s rushing title. Raider legend and Hall of Fame running back Marcus Allen led the league in rushing in 1985, his MVP season, with 1,759 yards.

Abdullah played in all 17 games for the Raiders last season, but only recorded four carries for 20 yards and caught 25 passes for 211 yards. Since Jacobs was used primarily as a workhorse back, Abdullah carved out a role on special teams, averaging just under 21 yards from 26 kick returns.
Selected in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions, Ameer Abdullah has played in 108 career games, totaling 1,594 yards.
