The 2024 NFL offseason has been a winding road thus far, both good and bad. Unfortunately this time, it’s bad news for Michael Irvin and the NFL Network.

Reports emerged Friday morning that the NFL Network had made the decision to let go of Hall-of-famer and longtime sports media personality Michael Irvin. This ends his near 15-tear run with the football media giants, a relationship that was reportedly on hot water for some time.

The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand was first with the news Friday, with other outlets confirming thereafter.

Irvin, 58, had been on shaky ground with NFL Network for more than a year, per Marchand. The former wide receiver was suspended by NFL Network after a 2023 incident in Arizona sent him home from the Super Bowl. Irving returned to the network last September and has been a regular on-air talent on FS1’s Undisputed.

The decision to release Michael Irvin comes in lieu of NFL Network’s massive cuts to the programming this spring. The network has also terminated NFL Total Access, ending their two-decade-run on TV as well. The media giants have already released several acclimated journalists and on-air personalities, including Andrew Siciliano, Melissa Stark, James Palmer and Will Selva.

“As is normal course of business this time of year, we are evaluating our talent roster for the upcoming 2024 season and beyond,” NFL Network vice president of communications Alex Riethmiller said. “That process results in renewals, non-renewals and additions to our talent lineup depending on programming needs. To those departing talent, we give our sincere thanks and appreciation for their hard work and contributions to NFL Media.”

NFL Total Access will be replaced by The Insiders going forward. That program features reporters Ian Rapoport, Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero.
