According to multiple reports, NBC Sports California has parted ways with Oakland A’s broadcaster Glen Kuiper.
The move comes following an incident earlier in the season. During a pregame segment prior to the Kansas City Royals matchup on May 5, Kuiper spoke about a trip to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City. However, instead of saying Negro, Kuiper appeared to use a racial slur instead. He apologized later in the game.
“Following an internal review, the decision has been made for NBC Sports California to end its relationship with Glen Kuiper, effective immediately,” the network said in a statement to The Athletic on Monday. “We thank Glen for his dedication to Bay Area baseball over the years.”

The A’s released a statement following the incident, saying that language was “unacceptable” and the Oakland Athletics “do not condone such language.” Kuiper, who apologized for his remarks in the sixth inning of that same game and again the next day, has been off the air since that game.
Glen Kuiper has been a member of the Oakland A’s broadcasting team since 2004.
