The San Francisco 49ers have added another member to the 2023 defensive line Wednesday, agreeing to terms with defensive end Austin Bryant.
Reports surfaced Wednesday evening that Bryant had agreed to terms with the Red & Gold on a one-year deal. The veteran edge rusher visited with the 49ers Wednesday, and after a seemingly successful trip, he’ll be leaving Levi’s Stadium with a deal in place.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was first with the news.

Bryant, 26, was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the fourth round of the 2019 draft. In four seasons, the Clemson alum has played on the defensive line, and in the middle as an outside linebacker. His best statistical season came at the latter position in 2021, registering 31 combined tackles, five TFLs, six QB hits and 4.5 sacks in 14 games played.
He was marginalized in 2022, only playing nine games for the Lions. He recorded nine total tackles last season.
A standout at Clemson, he’ll join former teammate Clelin Ferrell on the 49ers next season, hoping defensive line coach Kris Kocurek can turn the page on his career. The latest former 49ers to do so are Charles Omenihu (Chiefs) and Samson Ebukam (Colts), signing multi-year deals this offseason.
