SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
Reports: Former 49ers DE Charles Omenihu signs with the Chiefs

We can add another name to the list of departures from San Francisco, with defensive end Charles Omenihu the latest to do so.
Reports surfaced Tuesday evening that former 49ers edge rusher is expected to sign with the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs this offseason. The deal is reportedly for two years, with a maximum value of $20 million. The exact breakdown of his contract has not been disclosed at this time.
The Score’s Jordan Schultz was first with the news.

Charles Omenihu, 25, was traded to the 49ers in the middle of the 2021 season. Coming off of his best season, the DE racked up a career-high 4.5 sacks, 20 combined tackles and 16 QB hits in 2022. He also forced one fumble. Finishing the year with a 67.5 PFF grade, Omenihu heads to Missouri to join the Chiefs.
The 49ers have suffered major losses on the interior, losing fellow DE Samson Ebukam to the Indianapolis Colts earlier in the day. San Francisco has lost a few starters on defense, including S Jimmie Ward, CB Emmanuel Moseley and LB Azeez Al-Shaair to name a few.
Falling victim of the salary cap, the 49ers will look to rebuild the team’s depth in the 2023 NFL draft. Holding 11 picks currently, Kyle Shanahan & John Lynch should have ample opportunities to do so.
