Kyrie Irving is headed to Texas.
Just a few days after news came out that Irving had requested a trade out of Brooklyn, the Nets struck a deal with the Dallas Mavericks. According to multiple reports, the Mavs are sending Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith and multiple draft picks to Brooklyn in exchange for Irving and Markieff Morris. ESPN reports the draft picks Dallas is sending to Brooklyn are an “unprotected 2029 first-round pick and second-round picks in 2027 and 2029.”
If Irving passes his physical, he is expected to make his debut with the Mavericks on Wednesday, Feb. 8, against the Clippers. The Sacramento Kings then host the Mavs in back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10 and 11.

Kyrie’s time in Brooklyn
Since signing with the Nets in 2019 to play alongside star Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving only played 143 games for his hometown team. The 30-year-old point guard missed nearly all of Brooklyn’s home games last season as he boycotted the league’s COVID-19 vaccination policies. He was suspended this season for multiple games after he refused to say he had no anti-semitic beliefs after promoting a film that featured antisemitism on his social media platforms.
When he did play, he was productive. In four seasons, he averaged 27.1 points, 5.8 assists and 4.3 rebounds
Returning to the Nets
After being drafted by the Detroit Pistons, Spencer Dinwiddie bounced around the G League before signing with the Brooklyn Nets in 2016 where he came into his game. His best season was in 2019-20, when he averaged 20.6 points and 6.8 assists. The following year, he appeared in only three games before tearing his ACL. In five seasons with the Nets, Dinwiddie averaged 14.3 points, 5.3 assists and 3 rebounds.
