The Raiders are getting some veteran help in its backfield, announcing they’ve signed running back Damien Williams.
Williams, who was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Miami Dolphins in 2014, last played for the Atlanta Falcons. Unfortunately, he didn’t play much in Atlanta after suffering an injury in Week 1. He was placed on IR soon after and later released in December.
The terms of the deal were not released.
In just under 100 games played, Williams has recorded 1,397 yards over 336 carries with 14 touchdowns. He’s also able to catch the ball, recording 1,209 receiving yards and 11 caught touchdowns.
“In 2019, Williams appeared in 11 games with six starts for the Chiefs and rushed for a career-high 498 yards with five touchdowns, while adding 30 catches for 213 yards and two touchdowns,” the Raiders said in their press release announcing the signing. “His 11 rushing touchdowns in the postseason rank as the second-most among all active NFL players.”
At his press conference Friday, coach Josh McDaniels said Williams has been on the team’s radar for a while.
“Damien’s a guy we worked out earlier in training camp. He was in shape. He’s had a productive career, he’s a good football player, he’s smart, he’s tough,” McDaniels said. “But when you start to get a little low at a number here and you’ve got to play a game, and really we’re gonna play two in six days, along with another two competitive practices, just trying to make sure that at each spot we can, we’re kind of healthy, as healthy as we can be going into this stretch of days, which is gonna be an important one.”

Williams joins an already crowded backfield in Las Vegas. Currently on the Raiders’ depth chart are Zamir White, Ameer Abdullah, Brandon Bolden, Brittain Brown, and Sincere McCormick. Not listed is Josh Jacobs.
Jacobs is sitting out training camp after he and the organization did not come to an agreement on a long-term deal.
