Sacramento Kings sign Deonte Burton to 10-day contract

The Sacramento Kings announced on Monday that they have signed guard-forward Deonte Burton to a 10-day contract.
Burton, 28, has been playing with the Kings’ G-League affiliate in Stockton this season, where he’s averaged 12.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 54.5 percent from the field and 42 percent from beyond the arc over 14 appearances.
The Kings parted ways with guard PJ Dozier on Sunday when the 26-year-old’s second 10-day contract expired.

Sacramento continues to look for defensive impact as they move from Dozier to Burton, a 6’4, 240-pound guard-forward combo with a 6’6 wingspan.
Kings GM Monte McNair will get a decent chance to evaluate Burton over the next ten days, as Sacramento will play six games–all on the road–before Burton’s 10-day contract expires on February 9th (the day of the NBA Trade Deadline).
With the deadline quickly approaching, McNair will need to decide if Burton is worthy of a contract that runs for the remainder of the season, or if he can better utilize the roster spot by bringing talent in via trade.
