The Sacramento Republic have announced a major shake-up in the international soccer landscape Tuesday, with owner Kevin Nagle purchasing another team.
Sacramento Republic FC announced that Nagle, CEO/owner of the club, is in the process of purchasing English Championship side Huddersfield Town AFC. The sale is only subject to “legislative and governance procedures”, according to the club’s Twitter.
“I am beyond pleased to announce I have entered into agreement with Dean Hoyle to purchase a full stake in Huddersfield Town,” Nagle said in a statement Tuesday. “As the approval process is now under way, there will be no further comment until finalization, as we wish to 100% respect that process.
“I would however like to thank Dean for all his help and support along the way, and I cannot wait to meet and speak to the wonderful Town fans.”

Helping to found the Republic in 2012, Kevin Nagle addressed Sacramento in the statement as well, re-committing to The Indomitable Club.
“As I pursue this new endeavor and build new connections to elite levels of football, I remain committed to Sacramento Republic FC’s continued success and growth, our plan to build a stadium and community asset in downtown Sacramento, and bright future as a topflight club,” he continued.
The businessman was a part of the group looking to make the Republic a Major League Soccer team, getting approval in 2019. But after funding and stadium issues, the transition to MLS was put on hold indefinitely.
Nagle will now take his business ventures overseas. How this move impacts Sacramento Republic FC remains to be seen.
