Sacramento Republic FC is headed back to Hughes Stadium for a special match in August to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

The team will take on Orange County SC on Aug. 26 with the first 10,000 fans being given a commemorative T-shirt to celebrate Republic FC’s return to Hughes. The stadium at the Sacramento City College campus in Land Park is where Republic FC kicked off its inaugural season in 2014 to a sold-out crowd of 20,000.

Republic FC had teased the announcement on Tuesday by sharing video on social media that showed billboards reading “Guess Hughes Back.”

Republic FC now plays at Cal Expo’s Heart Health Park, which has about half the capacity of Hughes Stadium.

Republic FC said fans at the August match can expect a return of Republic FC players from previous seasons during a pre-game presentation. The club also plans to award $10,000 in grants to 10 community groups in the region.

Republic FC remains at the top of the USL Championship standings so far this season after a 3-1 win last weekend against Oakland Roots at home. That brought their league record to seven wins, three draws and just one loss.

Orange County SC is the team that ended Republic’s undefeated streak, which adds more suspense for the upcoming rematch.

Tickets start at $10 and will go on sale to the public on Friday, June 2, at 10 a.m. for those who sign up for a pre-sale. The remaining tickets will go on sale on June 5.

Club members have the first shot at getting extra tickets, starting Thursday, May 25.

In the meantime, Republic FC is set to play its next three matches away before returning to Heart Health Park on June 17 to take on Monterey Bay FC.
