The Sacramento Republic FC is planning to have a party downtown.
On Sept. 7, the Republic FC take on the MLS Orlando City SC in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup championship. The city is going to take over Cesar Chavez Plaza with a “massive video wall” to host a watch party so fans can support the team.
Gates open at 4 p.m. for the all-ages event. The game kicks off at 5 p.m. The first 2,000 fans who arrive will get a free Republic FC flag. The event will also have exclusive commemorative merchandise, including an Open Cup Final scarf and shirt.
“Our team will undoubtedly feel the full weight of Sacramento packing Cesar Chavez Plaza to once again show we are a soccer market unlike any other,” Todd Dunivant, Republic FC President and General Manager, said in a press release.

A win against Orlando City SC in the finals of the Lamar Hunt Open Cup would mean Sacramento defeated four straight MLS teams — San Jose Earthquakes, LA Galaxy and Sporting Kansas City were the first three — in the tournament. The last time a USL team won the tournament was in 1999 when the Rochester Rhinos bested the Colorado Rapids. This is the first time a USL has reached the finals since 2008.
