The San Francisco 49ers enter Week 6 with a relatively clean bill of health, especially with Aaron Banks set to make an appearance.
The Red & Gold’s left guard is expected to practice in a limited fashion Wednesday, according to coach Kyle Shanahan. Banks suffered a mild shoulder strain in Week 5’s clash with the Dallas Cowboys. The injury occurred sometime in the second quarter of the contest, forcing him to be held out the entirety of the second half.
Feared to have suffered a bicep injury at first, the 49ers and Shanahan felt a sigh of relief when tests confirmed a much better diagnosis for their starting offensive lineman.
“Yes. Anytime it’s the bicep, we were obviously nervous about it, and still an injury, but not as bad as it could have been,” Shanahan said about Banks’ injury Monday.
The Notre Dame product has been rock solid since taking the starting job in 2022, scoring a 62.7 Pro Football Focus grade last season. So far in 2023, he has allowed zero sacks on quarterback Brock Purdy.
#49ers practice report per HC Kyle Shanahan:
G Aaron Banks (shoulder) – limited
RB Elijah Mitchell (knee) – will not practice
LT Trent Williams and TE George Kittle – vet rest days— Lindsey Pallares (@lindseylares) October 11, 2023
Additionally, running back Elijah Mitchell did not practice Wednesday due to a knee injury. Mitchell suffered the setback during a practice session leading up to Week 4. He has been inactive ever since. The Louisiana alum has dealt with knee issues stemming to last season, playing in only five regular season contests in 2022.
Lastly, left tackle Trent Williams and tight end George Kittle had veteran rest days Wednesday.
