At long last, the 49ers have finalized their 53-man roster for the 2024 season.
The San Francisco 49ers announced their initial roster for the 2024 regular season Tuesday. Trimming a 90-man squad to 53 in 48 hours is no easy task, with many tough decisions having been made. Those have come on both sides of the ball for SF, with notable names either waived or released for other needs across the roster.
Some surprises were also good though, with a few preseason standouts making the initial roster Tuesday. Those include tight end Jake Tonges and cornerback Darell Luter Jr.

Some notable cuts in both the passing game and in the secondary. 2023 draft picks Cameron Latu and Brayden Willis were waived Tuesday. Additionally, cornerback Samuel Womack III and wide receiver Danny Gray were also let go by the 49ers.
Meanwhile injury news also came Tuesday, with safety Talanoa Hufanga removed from the Physically-Unable-to-Perform list. He will be eased back into football however, coming off a Week 11 ACL tear. Linebacker Dre Greenlaw has ben placed on the PUP list. And unfortunately, running back Elijah Mitchell’s season is over, now on the injured reserve due to lingering hamstring injury.
Here’s the #49ers initial 53-man roster:
QB (3): Brock Purdy, Brandon Allen, Josh Dobbs
RB (4): Christian McCaffrey, Jordan Mason, Patrick Taylor Jr., Isaac Guerendo
FB (1): Kyle Juszczyk
TE (2): George Kittle, Jake Tonges
WR (7): Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings,…— Nick Wagoner (@nwagoner) August 27, 2024
