After 14 weeks of football, the San Francisco 49ers sit alone atop the NFC West once again, at 9-4 on the season. And thanks to a Seattle Seahawks’ loss Sunday, the 49ers could clinch the NFC West Thursday night when they travel to Seattle.
To do that they’ll need the help of rookie quarterback Brock Purdy, who shined in his first career NFL start with three total touchdowns on a 134 passer rating in Week 14. Purdy’s status for Thursday is uncertain, however, as he deals with an oblique injury he suffered in the game. The injury is considered minor but due to the short turnaround, all bets are off as the team awaits this MRI.
“I think he did an awesome job,” Kyle Shanahan said postgame Sunday about the QB. “I think all you guys saw that, but he made a ton of plays. Made the plays that were there, made some plays that weren’t there. He did a great job in the pocket. Had one mistake there, he was fortunate that we got that one back. He didn’t hesitate. I think he threw a touchdown the next play, which was really cool, but it’s really impressive how he played and I thought it was similar to the week before.”
“I had a lot of confidence in him, but obviously it’s the NFL and you gotta go perform and he did that pretty darn good,” defensive end Nick Bosa added.
