The San Francisco Giants have promoted top prospect Casey Schmitt and according to multiple reports, he could debut for the club Tuesday night.
A second-round pick in the 2020 MLB Draft, the 24-year-old infielder has been on a tear with the Giants’ Triple-A affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats. Through a month of play, he has a .313 batting average, 22 RBIs and an on-base percentage of .352.
CBS Sports and NBC Sports Bay Area are reporting Schmitt could debut Tuesday night against the Washington Nationals.
Casey Schmitt is the Giants’ number four ranked prospect, per MLB Pipeline.
The best two-way prospect in the 2020 college class, Schmitt stood out with his power, defense and fastball/splitter combo while earning Cape Cod League all-star and playoff MVP honors the summer before. He became the highest-drafted San Diego State player since Stephen Strasburg went No. 1 overall in 2009
