Ahead of the Giants’ four-game series with the Colorado Rockies, San Francisco is sending Casey Schmitt back to Triple-A.
According to the team, Schmitt was optioned to the Sacramento River Cats, the Giants’ Triple-A affiliate, on Friday.
When he was called up in May, Casey Schmitt started off hot but has since cooled off. Since Aug. 1, since batting average is .180 and his on-base percentage is .222, recording nine hits and one home run.
In conjecture with the move, the Giants have reinstated Michael Conforto from the 10-day injured list. The outfielder spent the last three weeks on the IL with a hamstring injury. In 111 games as a first-year Giant, Conforto is a averaging .251 batting average and .343 on-base percentage. He’s also recorded 14 home runs and 93 hits.
Conforto joins the team in the home stretch of the season, as the Giants look to stay alive in the NL Wild Card race.
