The San Francisco Giants have signed a former two-time Gold Glove winner to a minor league contract, with an invitation to spring training.
On Monday, the team announced they’ve signed infielder Nick Ahmed. The San Francisco Chronicle’s Susan Slusser reported that Ahmed is already in Arizona with the team.

Nick Ahmed isn’t sure when he will appear in a game but he is ready to go now and has figured out some things with his swing. He said getting let go by his longtime team, the Diamondbacks, was rough but now he’s ready to go beat them.

The 33-year-old shortstop spent his whole 10-year career as a Diamondback, where in 2018 and 2019 he took home the Gold Glove award for his defense at shortstop. In 2018, Nick Ahmed tied the AL Gold Glove winner Andrelton Simmons of the Angels for the most defensive runs saved among shortstops, with both totaling 21. In 2019, he won the award again while leading the National League in 150 out-of-zone plays.
After struggling the last two seasons though, due in part to a shoulder injury that limited his playing time to only 217 games over the last three seasons, the Diamondbacks released Ahmed last September.

- Tuesday, February 27th – Giants vs. Seattle Mariners
- Wednesday, February 28th – Giants vs Oakland A’s
- Thursday, February 29th – Giants vs Arizona Diamondbacks
