Sean Cunningham, sports reporter and producer for FOX40, joined Sactown Sports to talk about the impact of the Sacramento Kings signing center JaVale McGee, competition at the center position, and getting closer to the Kings’ training camp.
Speaking of training camp, while the recent signings of big men have gotten most of the attention, Sean said he expects to see Jordan Ford there, too.
“Jordan Ford will be in training camp, as far as I understand it. And he’ll be able to compete for it. He’ll certainly have an opportunity, but there’s room to be made,” Sean said. “For Kings fans, I’m excited for them because they have a team where your rotational players are basically set… So to have the most mystery on the team be surrounding those low-end cursory players that may not even factor much is a nice problem to have.”
The team has not yet announced signing Ford to any deal.
Ford, a Folsom native, spent the 2022-23 season with Sacramento’s G-League affiliate, the Stockton Kings. In 32 games, he averaged 14.7 points, 4.8 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. He also spent time on the Kings’ Summer League roster, too.
Additional topics discussed include:
- If Kings general manager Monte McNair would trade a player to a rival like the 49ers traded Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys
- The impact JaVale McGee could have on the Kings roster on and off the court
- Which recently signed big man could make the final roster: McGee, Nerlens Noel, Skal Labissiere, or Neemias Queta
