There’s been plenty of recent sports news, from the complications surrounding Sacramento Republic FC continuing to advance in the US Open Cup to Sacramento State’s Mens Basketball head coach David Patrick heading to LSU for an assistant position, and more. To discuss it all, Stiles & Watkins were joined by local reporter Sean Cunningham of Fox 40.
The conversation initially centered around Sacramento Republic FC’s recent win over the San Jose Earthquakes, advancing them to the quarter-finals of the US Open Cup. After winning the draw to host the game against the Seattle Sounders on July 9th, there seemed to be uncertainty about where the match would take place.
“Knowing that Cal Expo was really pushing back and, at one point, saying no,” Sean Cunningham said. “Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed. Obviously, they got in the position to not only win that game against San Jose to put them in a position to potentially host, but then obviously, they win the draw. All these things started falling into place and it was mind-boggling to a degree.”
