Rocklin product Logan Webb tossed another gem, Tommy La Stella picked up two RBI without registering a base hit, and the San Francisco Giants picked up its fifth-straight win on Tuesday afternoon after defeating the Kansas City Royals by a final of 4-2 at Oracle Park.

With the win, the Giants (35-26) improved to a season-high nine games over the .500 mark.

Webb improved to 6-2 on the season and lowered his earned run average to 3.43 on the year after completing seven shutout innings on Tuesday night. The 25-year-old struck out nine batters and allowed five hits on 112 pitches–a career-high for the right-hander.

San Francisco’s offense was tamed by Royals pitching, but Tommy La Stella drove in two runs–both via sacrifice fly–and Wilmer Flores drove in rookie standout Luis González on a run-scoring single during the bottom of the sixth inning as the Giants would only need five hits to secure its fifth-straight win.

Tyler Rogers ran into some trouble during the top of the eighth as Kansas City was able to throw a two-spot on the board before Camilo Doval entered the game in the ninth looking to put the fire out.

The 24-year-old sat down two Royals batters on strikes en route to securing his ninth save of the season. Doval hasn’t allowed a run since June 2 (seven appearances) and has lowered his earned run average to 2.63 on the season.

The defense also played a big role in Tuesday’s win as Luis González flexed his arm strength on an impressive outfield assist to catcher Austin Wynns to putout Royals designated hitter MJ Melendez in the seventh inning.

“I have a lot of confidence in my throws,” González said postgame of his throw. “Me and (first base coach) Antoan (Richardson) have been working really hard on my outfield footwork and making good reads. I was able to see that ball and I got a good jump on it. I charged in hard, and I was able to kind of get a four-seam grip on it. I just let it eat.”

San Francisco will look to extend its winning streak to a season-long six games on Wednesday night at Oracle Park.

The Giants’ most-recent six-game winning streak took place last September when San Francisco rattled off nine-straight victories.
