The Hall of Fame receiver joined the show to share stories of his playing career and much more
This week on The Grant Napear Show with Doug Christie, the guys had a chance to catch up with Oakland Raiders legend and Hall of Fame receiver Tim Brown.
Brown, 53, played in the NFL for 16 years, spending 15 with the Raiders in Los Angeles and Oakland. Over his time in the league, the Notre Dame alumni racked up 1,094 receptions, 14,934 receiving yards and 100 touchdowns. Brown won the Heisman Trophy in 1987 before going to the NFL where he appeared in nine Pro Bowls.
In 2009, Brown was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and in 2015 he got the call to be a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
During his interview with Grant and Doug, Brown shared stories of his experiences with the Raiders, what it was like to play for Notre Dame and much more.
On playing for legendary coach Lou Holtz at Notre Dame, Brown shared how important the Hall of Fame coach was in guiding him at a young age.
“He changed my life, man, without a doubt. I know that’s a big statement, but I went to Notre Dame, literally, to get an education. I loved playing football, I enjoyed playing football, but football was not my life. I was going there to get an education. When he got there my going into my junior year, I was just a guy playing, I was having a good time,” he said.
“Two days after us being in spring ball, he pulled me over and asked me a litany of questions; He told me unless they find a way to intercept a snap from center, I’m going to get you the ball every chance I get. I told him that I came here to get an education, and he said, ‘You’re going to get your education, you’re going to get all of that. You’re going to be the best player in the country too.’ I realized I could get an education and be a football player. With that, we were off and running.”
