Disaster struck the 49ers Sunday as quarterback Trey Lance suffered a significant right leg/ankle injury that required him to be carted off the field. The team immediately ruled him out for the remainder of the game.
The injury occurred during the first quarter at the 2:33 mark when Lance ran up the middle on designed run play. The quarterback was tackled awkwardly by linebacker Cody Barton on second and eight inside the redzone. Lance tried to stand up but immediately collapsed onto the field, signaling to the training staff right away.

Lance was 2 for 3 with 30 yards passing up to that point.
Former starter Jimmy Garoppolo came in for the injured Lance and looked electric from his first snap. He finished his first drive off with a touchdown pass to TE Ross Dwelley from 38 yards out.
The 49ers finished out the half with a 20-0 lead over the Seattle Seahawks.
UPDATE: ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Lance will need surgery on his right ankle and is likely out for the season.
