While Trey Lyles is closing in on a return to action for the Sacramento Kings, the forward will not join the team on its two-game trip to Houston.
The Kings announced on Friday that Lyles, who is currently working his way back from a left calf strain, will not travel with Sacramento as he “continues to progress through return to play protocol.”
Following Tuesday’s practice, Lyles met with the media and shared that he feels “close” to returning from an absence that has held the 27-year-old out of action since the early days of preseason.

With Lyles sidelined for at least another two games, expect rookie forward Sasha Vezenkov to continue receiving backup minutes at the power forward spot.
Over four games, Vezenkov has looked smooth on offense while posting 7.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 0.5 steals per game on 43-33-100 shooting splits (16.0 minutes per game).
About Kings forward Trey Lyles
Over 74 games in 2022-23, Lyles averaged 7.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game while shooting 46 percent from the field and 36 percent from three-point range over 16.9 minutes per appearance.
Lyles brought Sacramento stability at the backup four position while playing spot minutes at the small-ball five, an aspect of his game that he displayed during Games 6 and 7 of the NBA Playoffs against the Golden State Warriors.
A young Kings team needed experience in its rotation, and Lyles–a player who has been a part of three playoff runs with Utah, Denver, and now Sacramento–fit the bill in that regard.
Not only did Lyles bring a veteran presence, but the Kentucky product became a fan favorite due to his notable hustle and ability to make the right play.
When is the next Sacramento Kings Game?
Sacramento will conclude a three-game road trip with a two-game set against the Houston Rockets that will tip-off on Saturday night.
