DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis football entered the season among the top five in yet another national poll, this time earning a No. 5 spot in the STATS FCS preseason Top 25, the website announced.
Hosted on the website fcs.football.com and sponsored by STATS LLC, this poll is one of two weekly rankings released throughout the season. It is based on votes from sports information directors from every FCS conference around the country, plus staff writers from the site itself.
Defending national champion North Dakota State claimed the top spot and garnered 142 of the 160 first-place votes. UC Davis is one of five Big Sky Conference teams to crack the Top 25, along with No. 4 Eastern Washington, No. 8 Weber State, No. 14 Montana State and No. 25 Montana. The Aggies went 10-3 in 2018, capturing a share of the Big Sky title and advancing to their first FCS playoff appearance in school history.
UC Davis previously checked at No. 3 on HERO Sports’ preseason rankings, and No. 5 by Athlon Sports. The team begins its 2019 season at California on August 31.
