Urban Meyer Has A Clear Path

If I’m Urban Meyer:
I call Houston and offer the #1 for Deshaun Watson, see if they’ll bite, and make it happen somehow.
Take that $71 million in cap space and spend it all on defense and O-line.
Sit back.
Profit.
There’s a reason Meyer came out of retirement, besides the obvious- he’s lived in the area before (Gainesville with Florida), the Jags have the #1 pick, and they have a TON of cap space.
If he can stifle the owner, he’s in a better spot than any of the other coaches coming into new teams next season. If he fails, you can blame it on ownership interference. If he succeeds, at all, then the magic of Urban Meyer reigns supreme.
I get that Trevor Lawrence could be generational. I hope he is. As an FSU fan, I’ve had the displeasure of watching him kill us his entire career.
But you don’t know. NFL history is littered with #1 picks that didn’t always pan out. Whereas Deshaun Watson is elite NOW, and still quite young. You’re guaranteeing yourself a QB for the next 5-10 years, and that’s quite a haul.
No one is saying that the Texans would accept the #1 straight up. Maybe with their cap space the Jags can also work out a deal to bring JJ Watt over and kill two birds with one stone. Maybe it takes more picks.
But if I’m Urban Meyer, the first thing I do, before I even secure my nameplate to the office door, is get on the phone and dial a Texas area code.
