The Sacramento Republic FC are one step closer to finally putting shovels in the ground.
Tuesday’s Sacramento City Council session included a successful vote on a “preliminary term sheet for developing a soccer stadium for Sacramento Republic FC, historic central shops, live entertainment venue, and Railyards infrastructure.”
The vote passed with a unanimous 8-0 vote in what is a historic outcome for the franchise–one that has been waiting to build a new stadium for over five years.
The “yes” vote moves the Republic FC and its new owners, Wilton Rancheria, within reach of obtaining a new $217 million facility that could put the club back into consideration for an MLS bid.

More on the new Sacramento Republic FC stadium
Following years of uncertainty, it’s official: The Sacramento Republic FC will be getting a new stadium.
The Republic announced last Thursday that it will sell the club’s majority ownership to Wilton Rancheria, making the group the first Native American tribe to possess majority ownership of a men’s professional sports franchise.
Current chairman Kevin Nagle will retain ownership and continue acting as the club’s operating manager.
Wilton Rancheria has reached an agreement with DRV (Downtown Railyards Venture, LLC) to acquire the necessary land needed to build a new stadium at the Railyards in downtown Sacramento.
During Thursday’s press conference at Sacramento City Hall, Mayor Darrell Steinberg announced a term sheet for the construction of a 12,000-seat stadium. Wilton Rancheria—the Native American tribe that owns Sky River Casino in Elk Grove—will provide the financial backing for Republic FC’s new home.
A completed term sheet for the site and planned stadium will be delivered to the Sacramento City Council on Tuesday, November 12th. According to multiple sources, the hope is to open the new stadium in 2027.
