On the Las Vegas Raiders’ first play from scrimmage, quarterback Derek Carr was picked off by Seattle Seahawks cornerback Quandre Diggs.
While that was noteworthy in and of itself, it’s what appears to happen next that has the internet buzzing.
Seahawks linebacker Darrell Taylor, who was not one of the 11 legal men on the field, appears to run off the sidelines and throw a block for his teammates. A literal 12th man for the Seattle Seahawks.
On Monday, Raiders coach Josh McDaniels was asked about the missed call. He said he and others in the Black & Silver saw the play in real-time, however, because it was a turnover, he couldn’t challenge the missed call. A review of the play could have come from replay officials, but there was no stoppage of play.
The Seahawks would go on to score several plays later.
“We’re the Raiders,” McDaniels said with a laugh. “Yes, I saw the play. No, I’ve never seen anything like that before. I mean, I think he went out there to celebrate, and then he ended up making a couple of blocks there to try to help his buddy. Yeah, they missed the call. Clearly, that should have been a penalty. But I’ll leave that at that.”
