Associate Head Coach Alvin Gentry will take over head coaching duties for the remainder of the season

The page has officially been turned in Sacramento.

Kings head coach Luke Walton has been fired from his position, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Following Sacramento’s rough stretch of play following an impressive 5-4 start, the writing was on the wall following last week’s report from The Athletic stating that the Kings organization would not give Walton the same leeway that he had during the 2020-21 pandemic-shortened season.

Sacramento has lost seven of their previous eight matchups and is currently 6-11 on the season.

Walton’s tenure with the organization comes to a disappointing end, with the 41-year-old posting a 68-93 (.422) record over two-plus seasons.

Associate head coach Alvin Gentry will be named interim head coach for the remainder of the season, according to the report. Gentry, 67, holds a 510-595 (.462) record over 17 season as the head coach of the Miami Heat, Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns and most recently, the New Orleans Pelicans (2015-20).

Player development coach Rico Hines has been promoted to lead assistant on the coaching staff to round out the changes to the coaching staff.
