Another odd event took place at the Oakland Coliseum Wednesday.
In a season filled with A’s relocation drama and possums, we now have to mourn the loss of a bird on the field.
Arizona pitcher Zac Gallen was warming up before Wednesday’s 5-3 win over the A’s when he did something only Randy Johnson has ever accomplished, his pitch hit and killed a bird mid-flight. The pitch that took out the bird was apparently a curveball.

In March 2001, Johnson, then a Diamondbacks pitcher, obliterated a bird against the other Bay Area team, the San Francisco Giants. The video has gone on to live in infamy as feathers flew everywhere upon impact between the ball and the bird.

Still unbelievable to this day. 🤯

While he may not yet be on Johnson’s level, Zac Gallen is off to a hot start this season, recording a 6-1 start with a 2.35 ERA across 57.1 innings.
