When Brent Rooker stepped up to the plate Tuesday night during MLB’s All-Star Game, baseball fans united to send a message to A’s owner John Fisher.

With the game taking place in Seattle, a division rival of Oakland, fans chanted “sell the team” during Rooker’s sixth-inning at-bat.

Speaking to the media after the game, Rooker said he heard the fans as he rounded the bases of his double.

“I don’t know if it’s a large presence of Oakland fans here or if fans across the league share that sentiment… Continuously throughout the year, no matter what side of the aisle you stand on, Oakland fans have made it very clear how passionate they are about their team and city, and I think that in and of itself, in a vacuum, is pretty special.”

A’s fans are trusted with owner John Fisher and his attempts to relocate the team to Las Vegas. Earlier this season, 27,759 A’s fans packed Oakland Coliseum in a reverse boycott. The message? They’re still in there and they’re not the problem.

Where do the A’s relocation efforts stand?

Earlier this summer, Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo signed SB-1, formerly SB-509, granting the Oakland Athletics $380 in public funding for an eventual $1.5 billion stadium along the Las Vegas Strip.

The Nevada state Senate and Assembly passed the bill after a seven-day special session to fine-tune the financing. The next move for relocation to become official is approval from 75% of  MLB owners.

  • Thursday, July 20th – Saturday, July 23rd – Houston Astros
