The NFL season will kick off on Thursday night, meaning we are just days away from the San Francisco 49ers’ season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
Although football is nearing a return, 49ers’ reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year and Pro Bowl defensive end Nick Bosa remains away from San Francisco’s team facilities as his representatives work with the front office on a contract extension.
The Sacramento Bee’s Chris Biderman joined Whitey & Watkins with guest host JayMarzz on Tuesday morning to share his thoughts on the Nick Bosa saga, contemplate when Bosa could suit up for San Francisco, discuss the team’s kicking situation, and much more.

Chris Biderman co-hosts Candlestick Chronicles, a San Francisco 49ers podcast. You can check the podcast out on all podcast platforms.

Where do things stand between Nick Bosa & the 49ers?
A report emerged Monday afternoon that the San Francisco 49ers and star pass rusher Nick Bosa would need a “significant breakthrough” to finalize an extension. The disagreement has cast doubt over Bosa’s chances to appear in Week 1 for the 49ers. A team eyeing the Super Bowl could be without their lead defensive end on the road in Pittsburgh.
“It really isn’t a question of ‘is he going to be the NFL’s highest-paid pass rusher?’ It sounds to me like they’re already there, already past [OLB] TJ Watt,” NFL insider Ian Rapoport stated on Tuesday. “That’s not really what this is about…This is about ‘how close to Aaron Donald’s $31 million and some change he gets, or does he get over that?’”
Bosa, 25, has been eyeing a deal that would make him the richest non-quarterback in NFL history. While San Francisco is looking to keep him near the top of the defensive line market. That discrepancy is rumored to be in the range of four million dollars annually, with negotiations close to $2 million at this time.
