The San Francisco 49ers will have their “wideback” available today as Deebo Samuel is active for Week 12 against the New Orleans Saints.
Listed as a wide receiver, Samuel has been nursing a hamstring injury the last few weeks, held out of the team’s Week 8 clash with the LA Rams. The versatile offensive player has featured in every game since, but was listed as limited in practice this week. He was listed as questionable heading into Sunday’s matchup.
“No, it was something different,” head coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday regarding the hamstring issue. “He didn’t feel it much on Tuesday. Got the information on Wednesday and then we were safe about it.”
Feeling it was more maintenance than concern, San Francisco will roll out Samuel alongside a slew of weapons in the offense. Going into Week 12, the wideback has 670 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns this season.
Unfortunately the injury bug hasn’t left the team completely yet, with defensive tackle Arik Armstead unfit to make his return for Week 12.
The Sacramento native has been dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot, while also nursing a hairline fracture in his right ankle for most of the regular season. He made his return to the practice field for the first time since Week 4 Friday, but was still seen as a long shot to play two days later.
Defensive end Samson Ebukam will also return to the field today, missing the last few games due to a quadriceps injury.
