It’s Christmas in May (at least for NFL fans)!
The NFL released their full 2021 slate of games, which includes – for the very first time – a 17th regular season game, and one less preseason match-up.
Here’s what the 2021 season has in store for the 49ers:
Following preseason match-ups with the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, and Las Vegas Raiders, the Niners open up with back-to-back road games, traveling to Detroit to take on Jared Goff and the new look Lions, followed by a Week 2 match-up at Philadelphia. The Lions and Eagles both finished last in their respective divisions this past season, combining for a 9-22-1 record.
Levi Stadium sees its first regular season action in Week 3 when Aaron Rodgers(?) and the Packers visit Santa Clara for a Sunday Night Football slugfest, followed by tough divisional games in back-to-back weeks when the Niners play host to the Seahawks in Week 4, followed up by a trip to Arizona to take on the Cardinals in Week 5, before a bye in week 6.
Coming off of the bye week, the Niners will play host to Carson Wentz and the Colts in Week 7, followed by a trip to the Windy City to face the Bears. Divisional action picks back up the following week when the Niners head back home to Santa Clara to take on the Cardinals and the Rams.
Week 11 features number-one overall pick Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars, followed by tough match-up with the Vikings and another Sunday Night Football appearance, this time with the hated Seahawks in Seattle.
The 49ers get a look at last year’s #1 overall pick, Joe Burrough and the Bengals in Week 14, before finishing the season with games against the Falcons, at the Titans, at home against the Texans, and finally, a Week 18 match-up with divisional rival the Rams in brand new SoFi Stadium.
49ers fans, what’s your thoughts on this year’s schedule?
