How did the 49ers fare in the 2024 NFL Draft? Jennifer Lee Chan thought they did pretty well this time around.
NBC Sports Bay Area’s Jennifer Lee Chan joined The Drive Guys Monday to talk about the San Francisco 49ers’ 2024 Draft Class. JLC also discusses the initial shock of taking wide receiver Ricky Pearsall in the first round, and how the draft lined up for SF. Plus, were the 49ers ever trading Brandon Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel during the 2024 Draft?
All that and more on Sactown Sports.
“I respect all of my colleagues, I personally just never thought that they were going to trade away Deebo Samuel or Brandon Aiyuk throughout this process. I just didn’t think so,” Jennifer Lee Chan said. “When you look at Deebo Samuel’s contract, it doesn’t help their [salary cap to move him]…Brandon Aiyuk is a guy who was like just hitting his stride now, and I know Kyle Shanahan has really worked hard to get him to where he is now, the coaching staff has as well. And, you look at the connection that he has with [quarterback] Brock Purdy and I just don’t think you take the No.1 target away from a young quarterback because of what it means to the offense.”
Additional topics discussed include:
- Was there initial shock at the Pearsall pick?
- Why would it have been a mistake to reach for an offensive tackle?
- Surprising that the 49ers didn’t take a DL in the draft?
- What is the long-term future of SF’s WR room?
- Will Deebo Samuel be on the roster after 2024?
- What’s the market value for Brandon Aiyuk right now?
- The importance of experienced draftees for the 49ers
- How close were the 49ers to dealing Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel during the draft?
- Is RB Issac Guerendo a sneaky draft selection for SF?
