Sacramento City Council approves new Republic FC stadium

The Sacramento City Council has unanimously voted in favor of a plan to construct a long-awaited Sacramento Republic FC stadium, along with retail and entertainment facilities, at the Railyards site in downtown Sacramento.

Following decades of inactivity, the mostly vacant area is set for a large-scale development that the team hopes will include construction on the stadium beginning this summer, with a targeted completion date of 2027–in time for the start of the 2027 USL season.

Along with a new home for Sacramento Republic FC, approved plans for the area also include retail stores, housing, a market, a hotel, and a live music venue.

In November, Wilton Rancheria reached an agreement with DRV (Downtown Railyards Venture, LLC) to acquire the necessary land needed to build a new stadium at the Railyards in downtown Sacramento.

Wilton Rancheria—the Native American tribe that owns Sky River Casino in Elk Grove—will provide the financial backing for Republic FC’s new home, a 12,000-seat stadium (with the ability to expand seating up to 20,000) located at the Railyards site.

Outside of Sacramento Republic FC matches, the new stadium will be utilized for concerts, community events, and a variety of other activities.
