Oakland takes second-straight series after winning three of four against Los Angeles

It was “Sunday Funday” for the Athletics as they routed the Los Angeles Angels by a final of 12-3 on Sunday afternoon.

Freshly named All-Star Matt Chapman picked up three hits on Sunday, including a three-run blast, his 21st homer of the season. Chapman fell a single short of the cycle, picking up a double and triple as well during the win. Ramon Laureano and Josh Phegley each claimed two hits of their own to help pace the Athletics offense. Athletics starter Chris Bassitt gave up two runs over 5.2 innings of work, striking out seven batters to pick up his fifth win of the season.

Oakland has won five of their last six games, and are now 46-39 on the season. The A’s will be back in action on Tuesday night when they return home to face the Minnesota Twins.

Game 3: Saturday, June 29 – A’s 4, Angels 0

Brett Anderson picked up his eighth win of the season–his most since 2015– as the Athletics blanked the Los Angeles Angels 4-0 on Saturday night.

Anderson nearly pitched eight shutout innings as he only gave up two hits and struck out three batters over 7.2 innings of action. Matt Chapman hit his 20th home run of the season, a two-run shot off of Angels starter and former Athletics pitcher Trevor Cahill.

Game 2: Friday, June 28 – A’s 7, Angels 2

Matt Olson had a huge night on Friday, going three-for-three with two home runs and five RBI to pace the Oakland offense in a 7-2 victory. Olson’s two home runs brought him to 16 on the season, and his three hits accounted for half of the Athletic’s hit total on Friday night. Mark Canha added a two-run homer of his own, his eleventh of the season.

Mike Fiers had a solid showing against the Angels, pitched 6.2 innings of one-run ball. Fiers walked only one batter while striking out four en route to picking up his eighth win of the season.

Game 1: Thursday, June 27 – Angels 8, A’s 3

Tanner Anderson had a rough outing for Oakland as he gave up seven runs over 2.2 innings on Thursday night, setting the Los Angeles Angels up for an 8-3 win.

Ramon Laureano hit his 13th home run of the season, while Matt Olson added a solo shot of his own. A’s slugger Khris Davis was removed from Thursday’s game after two at-bats with a left hand injury after being hit by a pitch. Davis is considered day-to-day.
