The future Hall of Famer joined the show to discuss playing with no fans, his desire to finish the season and much more

Former Sacramento King and eight-time NBA All-Star Vince Carter joined the Grant Napear Show with Doug Christie this afternoon to talk about a variety of topics regarding the current COVID-19 situation.

Carter, who was in the final stretch of his final season in the NBA, has played in over 20 NBA seasons.

This season with the Hawks, the 43 year-old was averaging 5.0 points and 2.1 rebounds per game over 60 appearances. Over the span of his storied career, Carter holds averages of 16.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game while shooting 37-percent from beyond the three-point line.

One of the biggest questions surrounding the NBA world is how the league will resume the remainder of the 2019-20 NBA season.

With possibilities ranging from playing with no fans in regular arenas to playing games at Walt Disney World in Florida, the likelihood of a cancellation of the season seems to grow by each passing day.

The safety of the players, team personnel and fans remains the top priority, which is why there will be no fans in attendance at sporting events for the foreseeable future.

On continuing with no fans, Carter made it clear that he would be willing to continue playing games–and that playing basketball in a new type of environment wouldn’t phase a player like himself.

“I don’t have a problem with playing in an empty arena,” Carter said to Napear and Christie. “We are basketball players, and we have adjusted to all the difficulties, all of the changes that have been ever made. Doug, you remember when the NBA implemented the zone, we had a problem with it. But we adapted, we found a way, and that is my thing.”

When asked if he would be ready to go if the NBA were to resume this summer, Carter’s answer was cut and dry.

“Let’s go. I want to play. I want to play more so than I’m worried about who is in the stands. I’m telling my young guys, ‘hey, don’t worry about the people in the stands, we have a game to win.’ You know? Maybe just now, this gives us the chance to focus on our jobs and we don’t need to have any other worry.”

Over the course of the interview, Carter goes on to talk about how his most recent contest on March 11 might have been his final game, how NBA practices have changed over the years and much more.
