The President of the Athletics joined The Carmichael Dave Show this week to give updates on the team’s new stadium ambitions

This week on The Carmichael Dave Show, Dave and JayMarzz had Oakland Athletics team President Dave Kaval on the air to discuss the recent developments of the bid for a new ballpark, cardboard cutouts in the empty stadium and more!

Kaval, 44, was named President of the Athletics back in 2016, becoming the seventh team president in franchise history.

Since Kaval joined the A’s. plenty of upgrades have been made to the Coliseum, including additions of premium seating, renovation of club seating, introducing new fan areas and even upgrading the park’s Shibe Park Tavern.

Interview with A’s President Dave Kaval begins at the 01:00 mark

Kaval is the leader behind Oakland’s push for a new waterfront ballpark.

In 2018, the franchise put forward a proposal of a 35,000 seat ballpark that would be privately funded and located within the Howard Terminal Site at the Port of Oakland.

This week, Kaval announced that the team will be suing the California Department of Toxic Substances Control in regard to the environmental law and conditions currently taking place in West Oakland, the proposed future site of the new A’s stadium.

With the lawsuit being the latest endeavor in ensuring a safe environment for the proposed park, Kaval shared the importance that a new ballpark could have on the fans, team and city of Oakland.

“It’s going to be incredible. There’s going to be a luxury hotel right next to it that will have an incredible waterfront backdrop. You have the ballpark itself, you have housing which is desperately needed in the Bay Area, including affordable housing. You create, really, a ballpark village in all of these things built together,” he said.

“An attraction for people to come to Oakland, come to the waterfront, spend their dollars, build the tax base, and really give purpose to having a city in this day and age, and that’s so important. We think it’s something that our project can uniquely provide this town.”

Over the course of the interview with Dave and JayMarzz, Kaval goes into depth on what the team is doing to ensure the A’s remain in Oakland, if the ballpark being built could have financial effects on keeping big names like Matt Chapman and Matt Olson, plans for the future and much more.
