The first domino has fallen in a spring full of change for the Oakland Athletics.

According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the A’s have reached an agreement with the New York Mets on a trade that will send All-Star starter Chris Bassitt to the Big Apple.

In return for Bassitt, the A’s will receive prospects JT Ginn and Adam Oiler from New York.

Bassitt, 32, was Oakland’s ace last season, posting a 12-4 record to go along with a 3.15 ERA over 27 starts. The first-time All-Star struck out 159 batters over 157.1 innings while finishing the season with an impressive 1.05 WHIP.

Over six seasons with the A’s, Bassitt posted a 30-24 record (88 starts), 3.44 ERA and struck out 483 batters over 526 innings pitched.

It has been long rumored that the Athletics will be selling off some key pieces this offseason, with Matt Olson, Matt Chapman, and Frankie Montas’ names all being mentioned in rumors since the MLB lockout ended on Thursday.

With Bassitt off of the board, expect Oakland to continue moving pieces as they signal a full rebuild in the Bay Area.
