The San Francisco Giants have added another arm into the fold for 2022 as Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the team has inked two-time All-Star starter Carlos Martínez to a minor league deal.

Martínez, 30, has pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals over the past nine seasons in both starting and relief roles.

If Martínez makes the big-league roster, his deal could be worth up to $4 million (including incentives).

Over 274 career appearances, Martínez has posted a 62-52 record, 3.74 ERA, and struck out 927 batters over 967 innings.

Injuries have plagued the right-hander over the past two seasons, having only appeared in 21 games since the beginning of the 2020 season. In those games, Martínez posted a 4-12 record to go along with a 6.95 ERA.

Martínez missed the final three months of the 2021 season after tearing a ligament in his right thumb.

This move is one with low risk and high reward for a Giants team that is looking to bolster its rotation following the departure of All-Star starter Kevin Gausman, who signed a five-year deal with the Toronto Blue Jays prior to the lockout.

Over the weekend, San Francisco brought in another All-Star in Carlos Rodón, signing the lefty to a two-year, $44 million deal.

The Giants are reportedly still in the market for another bat, so expect more action to take place before Spring Training exhibition games begin on Friday.
