Another domino has fallen for the rebuilding Oakland Athletics.

According to multiple reports, three-time Gold Glove third baseman Matt Chapman has been traded to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Following five impressive years at Oakland’s hot corner, the 28-year-old is headed to Canada to join a stacked lineup that includes the likes of Vladmir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, George Springer, and others.

In return for the 2019 All-Star, the A’s received right-hander Gunnar Hoglund, shortstop Kevin Smith, left-handed starter Zach Logue, and left-handed reliever Kirby Snead.

Not even 24 hours after the departure of slick-fielding first baseman Matt Olson, the Athletics have dealt another fan-favorite in Chapman.

Over five seasons in the green and gold, Chappy hit 111 home runs and drove in 296 RBI over 573 games. The 28-year-old collected three Gold Glove awards and two Platinum Glove awards over those seasons.

Even with Oakland’s three All-Stars off of the board–Matt Olson to Atlanta, Chris Bassitt to the New York Mets, and now Chapman to Toronto–the A’s might not be done dealing just yet.

Frankie Montas, Sean Manaea, and Ramon Laureano are names that we could see moved before Opening Day on April 8th.

Oakland has completely restructured its farm system with a bevy of prospects, but it’s tough to look past the fact that the A’s have once again moved on from some enticing home-grown talent in order to save a few more bucks.
