Another day, another addition to the Oakland A’s fire sale.

The A’s have traded veteran left-handed starter Sean Manaea to the San Diego Padres in return for right-hander Adrian Martinez and infielder Euribiel Angeles.

Both clubs announced the finalized deal on Sunday morning.

Athletics’ right-hand prospect Aaron Holiday has also been included in the deal and will be heading to San Diego.

After Sunday’s trade, Oakland’s payroll for the 2022 season has dropped to just $33 million–29th out of 30 teams in Major League Baseball.

Manaea, 30, was scheduled to start on Sunday against the Padres in a Spring Training tuneup, and in a turn of events will now face his old team, the A’s, when the two clubs face off at 1:05pm PST in Mesa, Arizona.

Over six seasons in the green and gold, Manaea posted a 50-41 record, 3.86 ERA, and 1.20 WHIP while striking out 641 batters over 727 innings.

On April 21, 2018, Manaea delivered a masterful performance as the lefty no-hit the Boston Red Sox at Oakland Coliseum. The then-26-year-old struck out 10 batters and walked two during a 3-0 win–the franchise’s first no-hit bid since Dallas Braden hurled a perfect game during the 2010 season.

With Manaea on the move, Oakland’s rotation for 2022 currently looks like this as we move to within five days of Opening Day:

  1. Frankie Montas
  2. Cole Irvin
  3. Daulton Jeffries
  4. Paul Blackburn
  5. Adam Oiler
