Serena Williams Pulls Out Of The French Open

Serena Williams withdrew from the French Open before she was expected to face two-time French Open champion Maria Sharapova in Monday’s fourth round, due to a pectoral muscle injury.

Williams said:

“Right now I can’t actually serve… It’s kind of hard to play when I can’t physically serve.”

She is expected to get an on MRI on Tuesday and “see as many specialists as I can” before determining whether she can play Wimbledon in four weeks, per NBC Sports.

In her 67 career Grand Slams, this is the second time she has withdrawn from a singles play. The first time was during the 1998 Wimbledon because of a calf injury.

This is her first time dealing with a pectoral muscle injury.
