Cornerback Jason Verrett To Start Season on PUP List; 49ers Roster Cuts Announced

The San Francisco 49ers have made their latest rounds of roster cuts.
Cornerback Jason Verrett was moved from the active/PUP list to the reserve/PUP list. Defensive tackle Kalia Davis was also moved to the reserve/non-football injury list. The team waived offensive tackle Sam Schlueter, linebacker Jeremiah Gemmel and tight end Tanner Hudson.
Teams needed to trim rosters from 85 players to 80 by the 4 p.m. EST deadline.
The 49ers are also letting go of OT Sam Schlueter, LB Jeremiah Gemmel and TE Tanner Hudson. That rounds out the roster to an even 80 men. For now…

Moving Jason Verrett to the reserve/PUP list means he will not be available for the first four games of the regular season. The veteran cornerback tore his ACL in week 1 of the 2021 season. Davis is also recovering from an ACL injury he suffered during his last season in college.
While Jimmy Garoppolo was seen on the sideline throwing, he will not be involved in any roster moves today. As for whether he’ll be on the roster follow next Tuesday, coach Kyle Shanahan said, “any scenario is possible.”

The last round of NFL roster cuts comes Tuesday, Aug. 30. Team rosters go from 85 players to the 53-man roster. The NFL allows teams to have a max of 16 players on practice squads, too. The last day of preseason training camp for the NFL is Sunday, Sept. 4.
