Talk about home cooking.

Since the start of the 2012 season, the Oakland Athletics have simply dominated the New York Yankees at the Oakland Coliseum, something that should be noted as the Bronx Bombers begin a four-game set on Thursday night at Rickey Henderson Field.

Over the past 10 seasons, the A’s hold a 22-9 record against the Yankees while playing on their home field, including an 11-3 record at home since the 2017 season.

Although the Athletics are limping to one of the franchise’s worst seasons in its 122-year history, the Yankees come into town playing its worst baseball of the season, having lost 14 of 21 games played thus far in August.

New York’s once gargantuan 15-game lead in the American League East has dwindled to 7.5 games as we move to within five weeks of the postseason, meaning that this four-game series in Oakland is an important one for the 27-time World Series champions.

Linden product and MVP front-runner Aaron Judge enters play on Thursday with an MLB-best 48 home runs and 105 RBI as the 30-year-old aims to best Roger Maris’ 61-year-old American League record of 61 long balls. Judge is currently on pace to hit 63 home runs with 38 games remaining in the 2022 season.

Judge is a lifetime .313 hitter against the Athletics, having mashed nine home runs and driven in 28 runs over 26 games. During 11 career appearances at the Coliseum, Judge is hitting .349 with four home runs, 12 RBI, and a mind-boggling 1.184 OPS and .440 on-base percentage.

The 6’7 outfielder will try to add to his impressive resume this weekend against a few familiar faces in former Yankee farmhand James Kaprielian and left-hander JP Sears, who was acquired by the A’s during the Frankie Montas trade earlier this month.

Oakland comes into play on Thursday holding a 5-4 record over their past nine games thanks to strong pitching (3.20 ERA since August 20th) from both the team’s starting and bullpen staff.

New York has struggled to score runs for most of August, only topping the four-run mark once during their past 14 games.
