Although the 2022 season has been a forgettable one for the Oakland A’s, the team has put together a solid stretch of baseball over the past two weeks.

Thanks to a career-high, five RBI performance from Sean Murphy on Tuesday night, the Athletics were able to defeat the Washington Nationals by a final of 10-6 in our nation’s capital. With the win, Oakland secured its third-straight victory, which is the team’s longest winning streak since July 25-27th when the A’s swept the first-place Houston Astros at the Coliseum.

The A’s have won four of their past six games and six of their last 10 contests dating back to August 20th, picking up multiple wins against playoff hopefuls in the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners during that timeframe.

Trailing 4-1 in the top of the third inning, Oakland used a two-run blast from Dermis Garcia to trim the deficit to one. Later in the inning, a two-run double from Tony Kemp gave the A’s a 6-4 lead–one that they would not relinquish.

Murphy’s fifth-inning grand slam all but put this one away as the Athletics bullpen was able to hold things down late.

“We battled. We didn’t get down (on ourselves), jumped right back in,” Murphy said postgame. “We didn’t let it snowball. Took the lead back and the bullpen kept it there.”

Oakland will look to match a season-long four-game winning streak on Wednesday afternoon when they face the Nationals at 4:05 PM PST.
