The San Francisco Giants are activating outfielder Lewis Brinson and he will be available when the team faces the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night at Oracle Park.

San Francisco completed a trade with the Houston Astros in which they received the outfielder in return for cash considerations.

Brinson, 28, was a first-round pick (29th overall) in 2012 and has played five seasons at the major league level. The Florida native was involved in the 2018 blockbuster trade that sent future Most Valuable Player award winner Christian Yelich from the Miami Marlins to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Over 341 appearances with the Marlins, Brinson holds a .199 batting average and .323 slugging percentage to go along with 25 home runs and 105 RBI over 1,111 plate appearances.

Brinson has yet to face Major League pitching this season, having spent 85 games with AAA Sugar Land. During those games with the Space Cowboys, Brinson holds a .299 batting average while mashing 22 home runs (career-high at any level) and driving in 63 runs.

With the Giants’ postseason hopes slipping away, San Francisco will look to some new faces as they attempt to salvage the final month of what has been a disappointing 2022 campaign.

Now that Major League Baseball has entered September, rosters have expanded from 26 players to 28, meaning that each team can carry a maximum of 14 pitchers.

Along with Brinson being activated, the Giants also called up infielder David Villar from AAA Sacramento.
