Watch: Giants Manager Vows ‘To Come Back Stronger Than Ever Next Year’

The San Francisco Giants set expectations high for the 2022 season.

Last year, the Giants recorded a franchise-record 107 wins. After losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games in the National League Division Series, fans expected the team to be back in contention this year.

However, that wasn’t the case.

With three games remaining, the best the team can end the season is with a record of 83-79. Regardless what the final win, lose record will look like, it’ll result in third place for the NL West and an early start to the offseason.

Players and coaches took to the field Sunday following the team’s last home game to thank the fans for their support. The mood was cheerful following rookie David Villar’s two-run, walk-off single in the 10th inning.

“On behalf of all of our players, all of our staff, we genuinely, from the bottom of our hearts, appreciate all the support this season,” Giants manager Gabe Kapler told the fans Sunday. “I know it wasn’t that easy, we had a lot of challenges, we vow to come back stronger than ever next year and make you proud.”

Following the team’s last home game, team president Larry Baer released a statement, thanking fans for their support this season.

“No words can adequately express how deeply grateful we are. You make the Giants organization what it is. As new players arrived at Oracle Park throughout the season, they unfailingly remarked on the amazing relationship between the players and fans. Out veteran players respect it just the same…Your impact, of course, extends off the field. Your generosity has changed lives for so many people in the Bay Are and beyond, whether through the 50/50 Raffle, the Willie Mays Scholars program, Junior Giants, or the humanitarian relief efforts in Ukraine.”
