Fox Sports reports that the Kansas City Chiefs offense “is ranked first in points per drive and third in success rate. The offensive line is ranked second in run blocking by Pro Football Focus.”

Their defense has improved, too. Through the first four weeks, the Chiefs have the number-one-ranked run defense.

While speaking to the media, Raiders quarterback Derek Carr spoke about the team’s preparation. The Chiefs may not have Tyrann Mathieu and Daniel Sorensen anymore, but that means there’s new guys Carr has to prepare to play against.

“I try and study. I’m very big on the mental side of the game, so my film study is a lot, and whenever there’s the same defense and the same guys rolling out there, you’re like, ‘Okay I know what he tried to do to me last time.’ It’s a big chess match, it’s a big chess game,” Carr said. “I know what body language he showed me last time and he did this, and you remember those mental snapshots so to speak, and you have them in your brain as you’re watching the film and all that kind of stuff. But when they’re new guys, you’ve got to study, especially when they’re rookies. You have to get to know them. They’re going to be on that team for a while and you have to get to know them and things like that. So, those two guys were some of their best production that they had. They trust them in some very key roles Spags [Steve Spagnuolo] did in that defense, now he’s got some other guys playing in certain roles. So, it’s going to be a lot of studying for me until game time to make sure that I’m on it and ready to play.”

The Raiders have not been successful at Arrowhead, with a record of 25-36-1 when they face off against the Chiefs. New receiver Davante Adams said that has nothing to do with “this game
and this team, this time.”

“They make a lot of plays too, so it keeps the crowd kind of going consistently,” Adams said. “Only way to neutralize that is to go and make plays for us, whether it’s on defense or offense, to kind of quiet them down.”

In Week 4, running back Josh Jacobs had a career day, running for 144 yards and two touchdowns. Adams said the team will need that type of play again against the Chiefs.

“I think the more you can establish the run game, no matter what team you are… if you’re a team that wants to be balanced and to establish how tough you are as a team, you got to be able to run the ball well and you got to be able to stop the run,” Adams said. “And that’s two big parts, ingredients to be able to beat teams like the Chiefs or the Broncos for that matter. So, that’s what we need out of Josh [Jacobs]. If given the proper opportunities, you got to go out there and maximize them. He definitely did that, so I’m proud of the way he played.”
